BRENT HANCOCK:
Brent has lived and fished around Port Stephens all of his life and has literally targeted every species that swims in these waters, from Marlin to Luderick. His passion for fishing started at an early age where he fished with his father in the estuary and from the beaches for bread and butter species such as Bream, Whiting and Flathead. But it was at the age of 12 when Brent fulfilled his dream and started game fishing targeting Marlin, Sharks and Tuna. Brent has been lucky enough to fish with some of Australia’s top crews and skippers including local identity Capt. Tim Dean and has seen some incredible fishing including Tiger Sharks in excess of 1000lb, Blue Marlin to 800lb plus multiple fish days including the spectacular inshore Black Marlin bite of 1997 where he released 35 blacks in four days plus also winning the prestigious Interclub Tournament several times in both capture and tag & release. Brent also has an in depth knowledge of many other facets of fishing and is at home targeting Bream on soft plastic and hardbody lures in the estuary, Black Drummer from the rocks, Jewfish from the Beach, Snapper on soft plastics or Australian Salmon on fly.
After many years of noticing a need for a real Tackle Store in Port Stephens that was actually run and staffed by local fisherman, Brent opened Tackle World Port Stephens in October 2010.
Brent is more then happy to talk to anyone about their fishing needs and will offer the best advice on all aspects of fishing!
PAUL LENNON:
Paul has also grown up in Port Stephens and having an ex Australian
amateur champion and professional fisherman for a father meant he was
introduced to fishing from a very young age.
From the moment he could walk all Paul wanted to do was go fishing. As
a youngster he cut his teeth from the back of his father’s boat terrorising the Nelson Bay marina bream and flathead population. It wasn’t
long before his father began taking him out to sea
lobster trapping long lining and what Paul got the biggest buzz out of
hand lining Mulloway, Kingfish and Trag. As Paul grew older his passion
expanded to the rocks and beach as well as haunting every jetty,
wharf and rock wall in port Stephens. For his 11th birthday he got his
first boat a 10 ft. tinny with a mighty 5hp on the back of it that
opened up a whole new dimension of fishing opportunities’. By age 14 he
started part time work in the local tackle shop where he was
taught how to repair and build fishing rods and 15 years later Paul is
still making rods building sticks for the likes of Alistair Mcglashan
George Trinkler and Tim Dean. Paul has been lucky enough to have
fished extensively through the Kimberly region of WA as well as
spending time in the NT chasing Barra. He’s been involved in several
expeditions to Fiji fishing remote seamounts and reefs targeting
massive Dogtooth Tuna Wahoo and Giant Trevally. Paul has also written
articles for fishing magazines and is a passionate photographer. After
working in tackle stores for the past 13 years Paul has a wealth of
product knowledge and retail experience. “It is great to finally work in a store with someone who shares the same passion”
